Dear Friends, family and supporters of Sari Bari-
Sari Bari has been working the red light areas of Kolkata for more than 4 years offering freedom and hope to women trapped the sex trade. Even after opening our second unit last year to create more spaces and opportunities for freedom, we are now busting at the seams and ready for more space with more than 50 women working at Kalighat and Songacchi Sari Bari units. Hope is being restored and is bringing new life in our midst. And we are very, very hope full! Continued

I love graduation days at Sari Bari. They are the markers of transition, recognitions of change, realizations of something new. Watching Shilpi receive her certificate, literacy workbooks, and handbag today I was again struck by the perseverance and strength of our women. They come from such dire circumstances but still have the fight within to work themselves towards a new life, reviving dignity and confidence. Continued

Also, we are excited to open a third, prevention, unit next month, with a focus on employing young women who are at risk for, but have not yet entered, the sex trade. Continued
