A few years ago we considered ways that we could involve more folks in the freedom work of Sari Bari.  We go about freedom at Sari Bari by taking up a sari, stitching it, and making it into something new.  So we thought that inviting quilters, a vast network of artistically minded and socially engaged people, to help us provide freedom through their similar skill set would be a good way to build a bridge.

Now three years in, we have engaged more than 30 quilters from around the world and 8 quilting artisans from Sari Bari in Kolkata, India to bring you a beautiful and unique array of designs, colors and stitching styles.  In the month of October, you will find them featured on our blog accompanied by short biographies of each of the Quilters.

The Sari Bari Quilt Auction and Raffle will be held from November 1-10, 2013.

All proceeds from the auction and raffle will go toward supporting Sari Bari’s ongoing freedom work. We are directing this year’s auction proceeds to the following initiatives:

• Purchase a property in the Kalighat red light area so we can employ more women for freedom

• Open our second prevention unit in 2014 in an area that is notorious for trafficking young girls and women into the sex trade

• Training for at least 50 more women who are waiting to choose freedom

We want everyone to have a chance to own one of these amazing one-of-a-kind quilts, but the winning auction bids get pretty high! For only $20-$30 you can purchase a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of the unique quilts for freedom.  You will be able purchase your raffle ticket for the quilt you choose via
