Fort Wayne, IN October 14, 2019 – Sari Bari USA, Inc. invites the general public to join in the upcoming freedom celebration hosted at Sari Bari’s location on Wells Street in Fort Wayne.
Sari Bari offers freedom and opportunity to women who have been exploited by the sex industry or who are vulnerable to human trafficking. The Sari Bari USA office, in Fort Wayne, manages marketing and distribution of product sales made by women who choose employment with Sari Bari in Kolkata, India. Artisans are trained and make beautiful, hand-made products made from recycled saris. As a celebration of the choice the women of Sari Bari make for freedom for themselves and their families, Sari Bari is hosting a Mukti Bazaar which will be a fun evening for members of the community to learn about and participate in the work of the organization.
The event will begin at 6:00 pm with music, a comedian, henna body art, food, and an opportunity for visitors to spend time at the Sari Bari location to learn about their work and partner with them with a silent auction featuring donated items from businesses from the community and other businesses who work similarly to Sari Bari. At 7:00 pm, there will be presentations from leaders of the organization. At 7:45 those attending will have an opportunity to participate in a live auction of a very special item as silent auctions conclude.
“This will be a great night.” Says David Grant, Executive Director of Sari Bari USA, Inc. “We are excited to be a part of a city full of compassion and commitment to freedom and empowerment. This night is about FREEDOM. “Mukti” is the Bengali word for freedom, and we believe our opportunity to share in freedom with those around our world is a beautiful, hopeful thing. We understand that our freedom is part of something bigger than our community. It’s a greater, global experience that celebrates with the successes in the shared journey to freedom, while mourning and responding to injustices. Inviting the community into our space is like acknowledging our family and the journey we take together.”
The Mukti Bazaar will coincide with an online auction of quilts made by quilters around the United States who have contributed with beautiful designs of their own making while incorporating Indian saris. Leading up to the event, Sari Bari will be inviting community businesses to contribute with other silent auction items, matching gifts, and event sponsorships.
