Freedom Quilters: Patty Hockman / Missouri and Lori Pool / Oklahoma, USA

Patty Hockman lives in Missouri, and her daughter, Lori Pool currently resides in Oklahoma.  Patty was taught to sew by her mother.  She in turn taught Lori to sew at a very early age.  Both began sewing garments – for their dolls and themselves.  When Lori was in High School, they took a quilt-as-you go class, learning to make a sampler quilt entirely by hand.  Both Patty’s and Lori’s first quilt projects are in various stages of completion!  It was some years later before the quilting bug really took hold, and now both are passionate quilters who have many projects in progress.  Patty is a certified Quilt-in-a-Day teacher, and Lori is a self-professed collector of quilt kits.  Lori finds most of her quilting is during small, short quilting retreats where she can rely on someone else to prepare meals and just concentrate on quilting for a few days.  These times are some of her favorite because of the fellowship with fellow quilters.  When Lori asked her mother to join her in making a quilt for the Sari Bari quilt auction, she gladly said “yes!”  The hardest part was deciding what to do with the saris once they arrived, and compromising between their different piecing styles!  While Patty and Lori both have Tin Lizzie sit down quilting machines, and are learning free motion quilting, Patty called on Becky Sullivan, also from Missouri and an experienced long arm quilter, who gladly agreed to do the quilting.
